Silent Floor Joists

JOISTSA Silent Floor Joist is a structurally engineered timber joist, combining high-grade softwood with an engineered composite panel. Using advanced technology these components are combined to produce an innovative alternative to conventional construction timber. Silent Floor Joists are manufactured from kiln-dried strength-graded timber flanges and 9mm thick Oriented Strand Board (OSB) webs. All raw materials are sourced from the UK and Europe.

JOISTSProduct Range & Specification

Silent Floor Joists are available in a range of sizes familiar to the Irish and UK Construction Industry with joist depths ranging from 145mm to 450mm. JJI-Joists are constructed from 9mm OSB web and C24 softwood flanges ranging from 45mm to 97mm in width. We can also design and produce large volumes of non-standard Silent Floor Joists to allow for particular span and depth situations that cannot be covered by the standard range.

The Advantages of Using Silent Floor Joists

  • SILENT FLOOR JOISTSStrong - Superior strenght to weight ratio endable longer spans
  • Straight -  Straighter and uniform dimensions
  • Light - Lighter and easy to handle with eased edges

The following factors may affect floor performance, and consideration of these factors may be helpful when designing a Silent Floor Joist System:

  • Deeper joists create a stiffer floor thereby reducing deflections
  • A Deep floor joists solution may in fact be cheaper than a shallow joist solution
  • Gluing the floor deck significantly improves the floor performance by as much as 70%
  • A correctly nailed floor deck will improve floor performance by about 12%
  • Thicker floor deck material will improve the floor performance
  • Directly applied ceiling finished will improve performance by about 3%
  • SILENT FLOOR JOISTSFull depth blocking will improve floor performance and must be correctly installed in order to avoid squeaks
  • Good quality workmanship is essential to achieve good floor performance. The provision of well prepared and level bearings, methodical erection procedure, diligent installation of all fixings and in particular fixing of the floor deck (including gluing where specified) will have a significant effect on the performance of the floor. Gluing of the deck to the joists and of the tongued and grooved joints is recommended in BS7916:1998.
